Description

Whimsical Zebra Cookies featuring a delightful mix of chocolate and vanilla flavors, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until just combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; gradually mix into the wet ingredients to form a smooth dough.
  4. For the chocolate dough, substitute part of the flour with cocoa powder.
  5. Divide each dough in half and shape into rectangles, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least one hour.
  6. Once chilled, roll each portion into ¼-inch thick rectangles.
  7. Layer the vanilla and chocolate dough, pressing down gently to eliminate air bubbles.
  8. Wrap the layered dough in plastic wrap and chill for another 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  10. Slice the chilled dough into ¼-inch thick cookies and place them on the baking sheet.
  11. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until edges are firm. Let cool on the sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Ensure butter and egg are at room temperature for best results. Don’t skip the chilling phases to maintain the cookie structure.
