Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • Powdered sugar, for rolling


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until creamy.
  4. Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and red food coloring to the mixture, and mix until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until a soft dough forms.
  6. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes for easier handling.
  7. Roll the dough into balls and then roll each ball in powdered sugar to coat.
  8. Place the coated dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cookies have crinkled and the edges are set.
  10. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
