Ingredients

  • 4 large Yukon Gold potatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar and Gruyere recommended)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (th. 6).
  2. Peel and slice the potatoes into thin rounds (about 2-3 mm thick).
  3. Rinse the potato slices under cold water, then dry them with a clean towel.
  4. Rub a gratin dish with cut garlic cloves.
  5. Layer the potato slices in the dish, adding cream, cheese, salt, and pepper between layers.
  6. Top with grated cheese and dot with butter.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender, about 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Notes

Let the gratin rest for about 10 minutes after baking to allow it to set up.
