Hobo Casserole is a comforting and hearty dish that combines ground beef, potatoes, and cheese in a warm bake, perfect for busy weeknights or feeding a crowd.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
- ½ cup milk
- 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ teaspoon paprika (optional, for garnish)
- 1 tablespoon butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a baking dish to prevent sticking.
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until the onion is soft.
- Mix in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom of the greased baking dish.
- Spread the beef mixture over the potatoes.
- Pour the cream of mushroom soup mixed with milk over the beef layer.
- Add the remaining sliced potatoes on top of the soup.
- Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over everything.
- Drizzle melted butter on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes or until the potatoes are cooked and the cheese is bubbly.
Notes
For added flavor, feel free to include your favorite vegetables like carrots or green beans. Adjust cooking time if using a different type of meat.
