Description
Delightful red velvet cinnamon rolls with a creamy frosting, perfect for special occasions and weekend brunches.
Ingredients
- 3½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup whole milk, warmed
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp red food coloring
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
- ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
- ½ cup mini chocolate chips (optional)
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
- 2-4 tbsp milk (to adjust consistency of frosting)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, granulated sugar, yeast, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, combine the warm milk, melted butter, egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it is smooth. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour or until it doubles in size.
- In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and mini chocolate chips (if using) until well combined.
- Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle. Spread the filling over the dough evenly. Roll the dough tightly from one end to the other and slice it into equal pieces. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Let the rolls rise for an additional 30 minutes before baking. Bake the rolls for about 25-30 minutes until they are golden brown.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add in the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until you reach your desired consistency.
- Once the rolls are cool, generously spread the frosting over the top of the warm rolls. Serve them fresh and enjoy!
Notes
These rolls are best served warm and can be customized with nuts or different types of chocolate.
