Description

Delightful and guilt-free churro bites made healthier with whole wheat flour and unsweetened applesauce, cooked in an air fryer.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil, melted
  • Cooking spray
  • Cinnamon sugar (for sprinkling)


Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  2. In another bowl, combine applesauce, honey (or maple syrup), and melted coconut oil.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Form small dough balls and lightly spray them with cooking spray.
  6. Place the dough balls in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  7. Cook for about 6-8 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Remove from the air fryer and roll in cinnamon sugar while warm.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

To store, place in an airtight container. They can last at room temperature for 1-2 days, in the fridge for up to a week, or be frozen for longer. Reheat in the air fryer or microwave before serving.
