Description

Hauntingly cute ghost sugar cookies that combine soft, sweet, and buttery goodness, perfect for Halloween or festive gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 23 tablespoons milk (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a mixing bowl.
  2. Cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter mixture and beat until well incorporated.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a cohesive dough forms.
  5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and roll out the chilled dough to ¼ inch thick.
  7. Cut out ghost shapes using a cookie cutter and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 8–10 minutes or until the edges are slightly golden.
  9. Prepare the icing by mixing powdered sugar with milk until smooth, then add vanilla extract.
  10. Once cookies are cooled, decorate them with icing and food coloring as desired.

Notes

Ensure butter is softened but not melted. Don’t skip the chilling step to keep cookies from spreading.
