Description

Warm and comforting chili beans perfect for gatherings or a cozy night in, made with simple pantry ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (or turkey for a lighter version)
  • 1 can (15 ounces) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 ounces) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14 ounces) diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, brown the ground beef (or turkey) over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the pot. Cook until the vegetables are soft, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook for another minute to let the spices bloom.
  4. Add the kidney beans, black beans, tomato sauce, and diced tomatoes. Stir everything together.
  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Let it cook for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to develop.
  6. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

For added spice, include diced jalapeños. Can also use plant-based meat alternatives for a vegetarian option.
