Description
Warm and comforting chili beans perfect for gatherings or a cozy night in, made with simple pantry ingredients.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef (or turkey for a lighter version)
- 1 can (15 ounces) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 ounces) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
- 1 can (14 ounces) diced tomatoes
- 1 cup onion, chopped
- 1 bell pepper, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large pot, brown the ground beef (or turkey) over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the pot. Cook until the vegetables are soft, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook for another minute to let the spices bloom.
- Add the kidney beans, black beans, tomato sauce, and diced tomatoes. Stir everything together.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Let it cook for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to develop.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
For added spice, include diced jalapeños. Can also use plant-based meat alternatives for a vegetarian option.
